AN ACT 1 Amending the act of October 4, 1978 (P.L.883, No.170), entitled, 2 as reenacted, "An act relating to conflicts of interest 3 involving certain public officials serving in State or State 4 agencies and local political subdivision positions and 5 prohibiting certain public employees from engaging in certain 6 conflict of interest activities requiring certain disclosures 7 and providing penalties," further providing for filing 8 requirements for statements of financial interests. 9 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 10 hereby enacts as follows: 11 Section 1. Section 4(b) of the act of October 4, 1978 12 (P.L.883, No.170), referred to as the Public Official and 13 Employee Ethics Law, reenacted and amended June 26, 1989 14 (P.L.26, No.9), is amended to read: 15 Section 4. Statement of financial interests required to be 16 filed. 17 * * * 18 (b) (1) Any candidate for a State-level public office shall 19 file a statement of financial interests for the preceding
1 calendar year with the commission on or before the last day 2 for filing a petition to appear on the ballot for election. A 3 copy of the statement of financial interests shall also be 4 appended to such petition. 5 (2) Any candidate for county-level or local office shall 6 file a statement of financial interests for the preceding 7 calendar year with the governing authority of the political 8 subdivision in which he is a candidate on or before the last 9 day for filing a petition to appear on the ballot for 10 election. A copy of the statement of financial interests 11 shall also be appended to such petition. 12 (3) No petition to appear on the ballot for election 13 shall be accepted by the respective State or local election 14 officials unless the petition has appended thereto a 15 statement of financial interests as set forth in paragraphs 16 (1) and (2). [Failure to] Any person who fails to file the 17 statement in accordance with the provisions of this act shall 18 correct any filing defect within 72 hours after being 19 notified of the defect by an appropriate official. After 20 expiration of the 72-hour period, failure to correct the 21 filing defect and file the statement in accordance with the 22 provisions of this act shall, in addition to any other 23 penalties provided, be a fatal defect to a petition to appear 24 on the ballot. 25 * * * 26 Section 2.
