                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for the confiscation of motor vehicles in
     3     certain cases.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1511 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 1511.  Carrying and exhibiting driver's license on demand.
     9     (a)  General rule.--Every licensee shall possess a driver's
    10  license issued to the licensee at all times when driving a motor
    11  vehicle and shall exhibit the license upon demand by a police
    12  officer, and when requested by the police officer the licensee
    13  shall write the licensee's name in the presence of the officer
    14  in order to provide identity.
    15     (b)  Production to avoid penalty.--No person shall be
    16  convicted of violating this section or section 1501(a) (relating
    17  to drivers required to be licensed) if the person produces at
    18  the office of the issuing authority or the arresting officer

     1  within 15 days a driver's license valid in this Commonwealth at
     2  the time of the arrest.
     3     (c)  Confiscation of vehicle.--The vehicle of any person who
     4  cannot produce a valid driver's license under this section shall
     5  be subject to confiscation by the police department having
     6  jurisdiction.
     7     Section 2.  Title 75 is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 1788.  Confiscation of vehicle.
     9     The vehicle of any person who cannot produce proof of
    10  financial responsibility as required under this subchapter shall
    11  be subject to confiscation by the police department having
    12  jurisdiction.
    13     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
