AN ACT 1 Amending the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.216, No.76), entitled "An 2 act relating to dentistry; defining and providing for the 3 licensing and registration of dentists and dental hygienists, 4 and for the revocation and suspension of such licenses and 5 registrations, subject to appeal, and for their 6 reinstatement; defining the powers and duties of the State 7 Dental Council and Examining Board and the Department of 8 Public Instruction; providing penalties; and repealing 9 existing laws," further providing for general powers of the 10 State Board of Dentistry. 11 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 12 hereby enacts as follows: 13 Section 1. Section 3 of the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.216, 14 No.76), known as The Dental Law, is amended by adding a 15 subsection to read: 16 Section 3. General Powers of the State Board of Dentistry.-- 17 The State Board of Dentistry (hereinafter called the board) 18 shall have the following powers and duties: 19 * * * 20 (u) To develop and distribute a fact sheet describing and 21 comparing the risks and efficacy of the various types of dental 22 restorative materials that may be used to repair a dental
1 patient's oral condition or defect. 2 (1) The fact sheet shall include: 3 (i) a description of the groups of materials that are 4 available to the profession for restoration of an oral condition 5 or defect; 6 (ii) a comparison of the relative benefits and detriments of 7 each group of materials; 8 (iii) a comparison of the cost considerations associated 9 with each group of materials; and 10 (iv) a reference to encourage discussion between patient and 11 dentist regarding materials and to inform the patient of his or 12 her options. 13 (2) The fact sheet shall be made available by the board to 14 all licensed dentists. 15 (3) The board shall update the fact sheet as determined 16 necessary by the board. 17 (4) This subsection shall not apply to any dental tool or 18 instrument used during the dental procedure, but shall apply 19 only to any structure or device placed into a patient's mouth 20 with the intent that it remain there beyond the completion of 21 the dental procedure, including, but not limited to, material 22 used for filling cavities or bracing teeth. 23 Section 2.
