AN ACT 1 Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania 2 Consolidated Statutes, prohibiting live pigeon shoots. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. Section 5511(q) of Title 18 of the Pennsylvania 6 Consolidated Statutes is amended and the section is amended by 7 adding a subsection to read: 8 § 5511. Cruelty to animals. 9 * * * 10 (k.1) Live pigeon shoots prohibited.--A person commits a 11 misdemeanor of the third degree if that person knowingly: 12 (1) Owns, operates, organizes, conducts, aids or abets 13 the actual operation, organization or conduct of any live 14 pigeon shoot. 15 (2) Participates by shooting at live pigeons released at 16 a live pigeon shoot.
1 (3) Supplies live pigeons to be used as targets at a 2 live pigeon shoot. 3 * * * 4 (q) Definitions.--As used in this section, the following 5 words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this 6 subsection: 7 "Animal fighting." Fighting or baiting any bull, bear, dog, 8 cock or other creature. 9 "Domestic animal." Any dog, cat, equine animal, bovine 10 animal, sheep, goat or porcine animal. 11 "Domestic fowl." Any avis raised for food, hobby or sport. 12 "Live pigeon shoot." An event involving the release of live 13 pigeons as targets to determine, by the number of pigeons hit, 14 proficiency in wing shooting. 15 "Normal agricultural operation." Normal activities, 16 practices and procedures that farmers adopt, use or engage in 17 year after year in the production and preparation for market of 18 poultry, livestock and their products in the production and 19 harvesting of agricultural, agronomic, horticultural, 20 silvicultural and aquicultural crops and commodities. 21 "Zoo animal." Any member of the class of mammalia, aves, 22 amphibia or reptilia which is kept in a confined area by a 23 public body or private individual for purposes of observation by 24 the general public. 25 Section 2.
