                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 18, 1974 (P.L.359, No.120), entitled
     2     "An act creating the Municipal Police Officers' Education and
     3     Training Commission; providing for the commission's
     4     membership, selection, compensation, and removal; providing
     5     for the powers and duties of the commission; providing for
     6     the appointment and duties of the chairman; providing for the
     7     act's applicability to the civil service laws; requiring
     8     training by certain political subdivisions and police
     9     departments; providing penalties for violation thereof; and
    10     making an appropriation," further providing for powers and
    11     duties of the Municipal Police Officers' Education and
    12     Training Commission.

    13     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    14  hereby enacts as follows:
    15     Section 1.  Section 5(13) of the act of June 18, 1974
    16  (P.L.359, No.120), referred to as the Municipal Police Education
    17  and Training Law, amended December 21, 1988 (P.L.1865, No.180),
    18  is amended to read:
    19     Section 5.  Powers and Duties of the Commission.--The powers
    20  and duties of the commission shall be as follows:

    22     (13)  To certify police officers who have satisfactorily


     1  completed basic educational and training requirements as
     2  established by the commission and to issue appropriate
     3  certificates to such police officers. All municipal police
     4  officer certification cards shall be designed as a camera card
     5  to be processed at no charge with a photo by any Department of
     6  Transportation photo center. The word "Police" and the photo
     7  shall be given primary placement on the card as to make
     8  recognition of the officer as a certified police officer
     9  apparent. Other identifying information shall include, but not
    10  be limited to, department name, certification expiration date,
    11  height, weight, date of birth, blood type and Social Security
    12  number. All certified municipal police officers shall carry the
    13  municipal police officer certification card and shall use the
    14  municipal police officer certification card as the primary form
    15  of identification along with the badge.

    17     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
