        ADOPTED, OCTOBER 5, 1994

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commending all persons who participated in the emergency
     2     response to the USAir Flight 427 disaster.

     3     WHEREAS, On September 8, 1994, at 7:05 p.m., USAir Flight 427


     1  crashed in Hopewell Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania; and
     2     WHEREAS, Hundreds of people, including volunteers, have
     3  worked tirelessly providing fire protection, medical services,
     4  law enforcement duties and a myriad of emergency response
     5  functions from minutes after the crash and many of whom are
     6  still at the crash site performing essential functions; and
     7     WHEREAS, Over 30 fire departments from Beaver and Allegheny
     8  Counties and firefighters from the Greater Pittsburgh
     9  International Airport participated in the emergency response;
    10  and
    11     WHEREAS, At least 16 local law enforcement agencies from
    12  Beaver and Allegheny Counties provided emergency assistance,
    13  including the Beaver County Detectives and the Allegheny County
    14  Police; and
    15     WHEREAS, The Beaver County Coroner's office and the Allegheny
    16  County Coroner's office provided invaluable assistance; and
    17     WHEREAS, Numerous dentists from Beaver and Allegheny Counties
    18  gave many hours of their time to aid in the identification of
    19  the victims; and
    20     WHEREAS, Beaver County and Allegheny County emergency
    21  management personnel were courageous in their efforts in the
    22  coordination and in the overall response effort; and
    23     WHEREAS, The Allegheny County Department of Public Works
    24  provided invaluable assistance; and
    25     WHEREAS, Federal and State agencies such as the National
    26  Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation
    27  Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the 911th
    28  Reserves, the 171st Air Refueling Wing, the Pennsylvania
    29  National Guard, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency
    30  (PEMA), the Department of Environmental Resources and the State

     1  Department of Health have made major contributions to the
     2  emergency effort; and
     3     WHEREAS, The Red Cross and the Salvation Army greatly
     4  contributed to the effort by feeding all personnel on the
     5  emergency site; and
     6     WHEREAS, USAir provided great assistance in the overall
     7  operations, especially in the identification of the victims;
     8  therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the
    10  outstanding efforts of all persons who participated in the
    11  emergency response to the USAir Flight 427 disaster.
