           PISTELLA, ROONEY AND CARN, JUNE 23, 1993

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 23, 1993

                            A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

     1  Establishing the Select Committee to Investigate Racism.

     2     WHEREAS, Racism has been perpetuated in our society for many
     3  years; and
     4     WHEREAS, The recent events in California and throughout the
     5  Nation indicate that a closer examination of the impact of
     6  racism and of the reasons for the current prevalence of racism
     7  is required; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
     9  establish the Select Committee to Investigate Racism, consisting
    10  of 14 members of the General Assembly; and be it further
    11     RESOLVED, That seven members of the committee be appointed by
    12  the President pro tempore of the Senate, four from the majority
    13  party and three from the minority party, and that seven members
    14  of the committee be appointed by the Speaker of the House of
    15  Representatives, four from the majority party and three from the
    16  minority party; and be it further
    17     RESOLVED, That the committee may hold hearings, take

     1  testimony and make its investigations at such places as it deems
     2  necessary in this Commonwealth and that each member of the
     3  committee may administer oaths and affirmations to witnesses
     4  appearing before the committee; and be it further
     5     RESOLVED, That the committee report its findings and
     6  recommendations to the General Assembly by September 9, 1993.
