                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Proclaiming July 27, 1993, as "Alan Galletly Day for Pioneers
     2     Across America for Alzheimer's Research" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The Independent Telephone Pioneer Association (ITPA)
     4  is a national philanthropic organization comprising 40,000
     5  active and retired employees of the independent
     6  telecommunications industry; and
     7     WHEREAS, ITPA organized Pioneers Across America for
     8  Alzheimer's Research, a coast-to-coast bicycle ride to raise
     9  awareness of the growing problem of Alzheimer's disease and the
    10  need to fund necessary Alzheimer's disease research; and
    11     WHEREAS, Today, Alzheimer's disease affects 4 million older
    12  Americans, and as our population continues to age, that number
    13  could reach 14 million before the middle of the next century;
    14  and
    15     WHEREAS, The ITPA has long been committed to the fight
    16  against Alzheimer's disease and has joined forces with the
    17  American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF), a nonprofit


     1  organization recognized as a leader in the funding of vital
     2  research into the causes of and cures for Alzheimer's disease
     3  across the country and around the world; and
     4     WHEREAS, ITPA is sponsoring Pioneers Across America for
     5  Alzheimer's Research to raise 1 million dollars to support
     6  Alzheimer's disease research funded by AHAF; and
     7     WHEREAS, ITPA member Alan Galletly will be bicycling 4,300
     8  miles from Newport Beach, California, to Washington, D.C., and
     9  is receiving pledges and donations for every mile pedaled that
    10  will be used for Alzheimer's disease research. He is scheduled
    11  to arrive in Bedford County on July 27th; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives in order to
    13  recognize the efforts of the Independent Telephone Pioneer
    14  Association and the American Health Assistance Foundation
    15  proclaim July 27, 1993, "Alan Galletly Day for Pioneers Across
    16  America for Alzheimer's Research" in Pennsylvania.
