        ADOPTED, JUNE 7, 1993

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating Sunday, June 6, 1993, as "Cancer Survivors Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Americans across the country will be participating
     4  in activities on Sunday, June 6, 1993, which celebrate life as
     5  part of National Cancer Survivors Day; and
     6     WHEREAS, June 6, 1993, is the sixth annual National Cancer
     7  Survivors Day, sponsored nationwide by Coping, a magazine for
     8  people living with cancer, the National Coalition for Cancer
     9  Survivorship, Janssen Pharmaceutic, Inc., and Cerenex
    10  Pharmaceuticals; and
    11     WHEREAS, The purpose of National Cancer Survivors Day is to
    12  acknowledge that our communities include many cancer survivors
    13  and that they are active, productive citizens; and


     1     WHEREAS, National Cancer Survivors Day also is set aside to
     2  acknowledge the positive advances which have been made in the
     3  methods of early detection, cancer treatment and research; and
     4     WHEREAS, National Cancer Survivors Day also represents a
     5  national effort to draw attention and public awareness to the
     6  fact that many Americans face barriers that prohibit equal
     7  access to cancer care, even to cancer detection and treatment
     8  which is currently available in their communities; and
     9     WHEREAS, IntraCare of Philadelphia, a cancer treatment
    10  center, is sponsoring activities at the Philadelphia Zoo on
    11  Saturday, June 5, 1993, honoring cancer survivors and their
    12  families, kicking off the celebration of National Cancer
    13  Survivors Day; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of Pennsylvania
    15  designate June 6, 1993, as "Cancer Survivors Day" in
    16  Pennsylvania in recognition of National Cancer Survivors Day and
    17  the many cancer survivors and their families.
