        ADOPTED, MAY 27, 1993

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the outstanding achievements of the Civilian
     2     Conservation Corps on its 60th Anniversary.

     3     WHEREAS, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed a program
     4  to recruit thousands of unemployed young men, enroll them in a
     5  peacetime army and send them into battle against the destruction
     6  and erosion of natural resources; and
     7     WHEREAS, The Emergency Conservation Work Act, more commonly
     8  known as the Civilian Conservation Corps, was enacted in 1933;
     9  and
    10     WHEREAS, The Civilian Conservation Corps accomplished many
    11  tasks for the betterment of life in this Commonwealth; and
    12     WHEREAS, These accomplishments include constructing buildings
    13  still in use in many of our State parks, building bridges and


     1  retaining walls, constructing walking and riding trails, roads,
     2  lookouts, dams and reservoirs and fighting forest fires; and
     3     WHEREAS, The National Association of the Civilian
     4  Conservation Corps Alumni has been responsible for planting 9
     5  billion trees throughout the United States; and
     6     WHEREAS, Civilian Conservation Corps alumni will celebrate
     7  their 60th Anniversary on June 6, 1993; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
     9  outstanding accomplishments of the Civilian Conservation Corps;
    10  and be it further
    11     RESOLVED, That all citizens join together in recognizing and
    12  thanking this generous group for the many contributions it has
    13  made to this Commonwealth.
