                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commending the Travelers Protective Association for its nearly
     2     100 years of safety and other civic activities; and urging
     3     the Governor to proclaim October 4 through 10, 1992, as
     4     "Child Safety Week" throughout this Commonwealth.

     5     WHEREAS, The Travelers Protective Association (TPA) was
     6  established in 1890 as a nonprofit, civic-minded organization;
     7  and
     8     WHEREAS, The TPA currently has more than 210,000 members
     9  nationwide, is licensed in 38 states, including this
    10  Commonwealth, and has 35 divisions and 298 posts in the
    11  principal cities of those states; and
    12     WHEREAS, The TPA's objectives include the improvement of
    13  public safety through its Child Safety Program, now in its 35th
    14  year; and
    15     WHEREAS, The TPA Child Safety Program is one of the largest


     1  in the Nation and includes the furnishing of free safety vests
     2  to school safety personnel, the providing of speakers and films
     3  on safety topics and an annual bicycle safety inspection
     4  program; and
     5     WHEREAS, The TPA provides many other programs of value to the
     6  communities which it serves, such as sponsorship of Little
     7  League teams, travelers' coffee break stops and meals-on-wheels
     8  programs for the elderly; and
     9     WHEREAS, In 1975 the TPA established a scholarship trust
    10  program to provide financial aid to deaf and other hearing-
    11  impaired persons who may benefit from treatment or education;
    12  therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the
    14  Travelers Protective Association for its many worthwhile
    15  activities which benefit the citizens of this Commonwealth and
    16  the Nation and urge the Governor to proclaim October 4 through
    17  10, 1992, as "Child Safety Week" throughout this Commonwealth.
