                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the Borough of Trappe in Montgomery County on the
     2     celebration of the 275th Anniversary of the settlement of
     3     Trappe.

     4     WHEREAS, This year, the Borough of Trappe celebrates the
     5  275th Anniversary of its settlement in 1717 by John Jacob
     6  Schrack; and
     7     WHEREAS, Trappe is also celebrating the 250th Anniversary of
     8  the arrival of the Reverend Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, the
     9  father of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the United States;
    10  and
    11     WHEREAS, Reverend Muhlenberg's three sons have brought fame
    12  to Trappe; and
    13     WHEREAS, Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg was a member of the
    14  Continental Congress and the first Speaker of the United States
    15  House of Representatives of the first United States Congress;
    16  and
    17     WHEREAS, Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg was a member of the first
    18  United States Congress, United States Senate and Collector of

     1  the Port of Philadelphia; and
     2     WHEREAS, Henry Ernst Muhlenberg was the first president of
     3  what is now Franklin and Marshall College; and
     4     WHEREAS, 1992 also marks the 250th Anniversary of St. Luke's
     5  Reformed Church of Trappe founded by the Reverend John Philip
     6  Boehm; and
     7     WHEREAS, Trappe was the home of Francis Rahn Shunk, who was
     8  Secretary of the Commonwealth in 1838 and Governor in 1844; and
     9     WHEREAS, Lewis Royer, son of Judge Joseph Royer of Trappe,
    10  represented Montgomery County as Senator in the General Assembly
    11  of Pennsylvania in 1878; and
    12     WHEREAS, The Uniform Tube Company, which ships its
    13  manufactured products throughout the United States and abroad,
    14  is located in Trappe; and
    15     WHEREAS, The H-B Instrument Company also brings honor to
    16  Trappe and Pennsylvania by being the nation's largest
    17  manufacturer of thermometers, hydrometers, hygrometers, power
    18  controls, tilt and tip switches and other measuring instruments
    19  in the United States; therefore be it
    20     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the Borough
    21  of Trappe on the celebration of the 275th Anniversary of the
    22  settlement of Trappe; and be it further
    23     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    24  Charles E. Wismer, Chairman of the Committee on the 275th
    25  Anniversary of the Settlement of Trappe, 235 West Seventh
    26  Avenue, Trappe PA 19426.
