        ADOPTED, OCTOBER 7, 1991

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring October 6, 1991, as "German-American Day" in this
     2     Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, In recent years, October 6 has been observed as
     4  "German-American Day," which celebrates the arrival of the first
     5  German immigrants on October 6, 1683; and
     6     WHEREAS, The first German settlement in America was
     7  established at Germantown, now a part of Philadelphia; and
     8     WHEREAS, German-Americans have excelled in numerous fields,
     9  including agriculture, printing, music, woodworking, textiles
    10  and literature, which have contributed to the multifaceted
    11  culture of Pennsylvania; and
    12     WHEREAS, These contributions continue to greatly benefit
    13  Pennsylvania; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the


     1  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania declare October 6, 1991, as
     2  "German-American Day" and urge all Pennsylvanians to recognize
     3  the valuable contributions of German-Americans to the history
     4  and culture of Pennsylvania.
