A RESOLUTION 1 Establishing a select committee to study the impact and 2 feasibility of lengthening the school year. 3 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives, on April 17, 1991, 4 overwhelmingly adopted House Resolution No. 72, Printer's No. 5 1138 (1991), directing the Joint State Government Commission to 6 create a task force to study the impact and feasibility of 7 lengthening the school year; and 8 WHEREAS, A task force of 6 senators and 12 representatives 9 was appointed to carry out the study; and 10 WHEREAS, Funding for the Joint State Government Commission in 11 the act of (P.L. , No. ), known as 12 the General Appropriation Act of 1991, may not be sufficient to 13 allow full compliance with House Resolution No. 72, Printer's 14 No. 1138 (1991); therefore be it 15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives establish a 16 select committee to study the impact and feasibility of 17 increasing the Commonwealth's current number of school days to a
1 mandatory year-round school system or alternatively providing 2 such a system as an option available to parents; and be it 3 further 4 RESOLVED, That the study include the measurable scholastic 5 impact of lengthening the school year, the financial impact on 6 State and local government and the potential impact on the 7 tourism industry, school employees and families with school age 8 children; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That the 12 representatives appointed to the task 10 force established under House Resolution No. 72, Printer's No. 11 1138 (1991) be appointed to the select committee; and be it 12 further 13 RESOLVED, That the select committee be dissolved if 14 sufficient funding for the compliance with House Resolution No. 15 72, Printer's No. 1138 (1991), is included in the act of 16 (P.L. , No. ), known as the General Appropriation 17 Act of 1991; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That the select committee report as soon as 19 possible its findings and recommendations, as well as proposed 20 legislation if it so desires, to the House of Representatives.
