A RESOLUTION
1 Commemorating the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River
2 Basin on its 50th anniversary.
3 WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is proud to be a
4 member of the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, The General Assembly enacted Act No. 405 of 1945,
7 creating a commission to act jointly with commissions appointed
8 for like purposes by the states of West Virginia and Maryland,
9 the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia; and
10 WHEREAS, The mission and purpose of the commission has been
11 to cooperate in the abatement of existing water pollution and
12 control future water pollution of the waters of the drainage
13 basin of the Potomac River within the States of Maryland and
14 West Virginia, the Commonwealths of Pennsylvania and Virginia
15 and the District of Columbia; and
16 WHEREAS, The regulation, control and prevention of water
17 pollution requires integration and coordination of Federal,
1 State, local and private agencies, groups and interested
2 citizens; and
3 WHEREAS, The states of Maryland and West Virginia, the
4 Commonwealths of Pennsylvania and Virginia and the District of
5 Columbia, as signatory bodies, created the Potomac Valley
6 Conservancy District; and
7 WHEREAS, The commission has been committed to restoring and
8 protecting our cherished natural resources over the last 50
9 years in supporting the highly successful "Healing of Rivers, 50
10 Years in the Life of the Potomac," a campaign to clean up the
11 Potomac River Basin; and
12 WHEREAS, The "Healing of the Rivers" exhibit contains more
13 than 100 color and black and white photographs which are now on
14 display at the East Wing of the Pennsylvania State Capitol from
15 June 3 through June 21, 1991; therefore be it
16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
17 Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin and its members
18 on its 50th anniversary; and be it further
19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
20 the Executive Director of the Interstate Commission on the
21 Potomac River Basin, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 300,
22 Rockville, Maryland 20852.
