                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, requiring notice of revocation or suspension to be
     3     sent by registered or certified mail.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1540(b) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 1540.  Surrender of license.
     9     * * *
    10     (b)  Suspension, revocation or disqualification of operating
    11  privilege.--Upon the suspension or revocation of the operating
    12  privilege or the disqualification of the commercial operating
    13  privilege of any person by the department, the department shall
    14  forthwith notify the person in writing by certified or
    15  registered mail at the address of record to surrender his
    16  driver's license to the department for the term of suspension,

     1  revocation or disqualification. The suspension, revocation or
     2  disqualification shall be effective upon a date determined by
     3  the department or the date of surrender of the license to the
     4  department if that date is subsequent to the department's notice
     5  to surrender the license, whichever occurs first. Upon surrender
     6  of the license, the department shall issue a receipt showing the
     7  date that it received the license.

     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
