                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of August 21, 1953 (P.L.1323, No.373), entitled  <--
     2     "An act concerning notaries public; and amending, revising,
     3     consolidating and changing the law relating thereto," further
     4     providing for documents to be recorded in the office of the
     5     recorder of deeds.
     6  AMENDING THE ACT OF JULY 24, 1941 (P.L.490, NO.188), ENTITLED     <--
     7     "AN ACT RELATING TO ACKNOWLEDGMENTS OF WRITTEN INSTRUMENTS,
     8     AND TO MAKE UNIFORM THE LAW WITH RELATION THERETO," FURTHER
     9     PROVIDING FOR CERTIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS IN THE OFFICE OF THE
    10     RECORDER OF DEEDS.

    11     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    12  hereby enacts as follows:
    13     Section 1.  Section 12(c) of the act of August 21, 1953        <--
    14  (P.L.1323, No.373), known as The Notary Public Law, amended June
    15  30, 1988 (P.L.462, No.78), is amended to read:
    16     Section 12.  Notarial Seal.--* * *
    17     (c)  In addition to the official seal required in subsection
    18  (a), a notary public shall also use and keep an embosser upon
    19  which shall be engraved the words "Notary Public, Commonwealth
    20  of Pennsylvania," and the name and surname of the notary. All

     1  documents executed [shall] may bear a legibly embossed
     2  impression. As long as the document left for recording in the
     3  office of the recorder of deeds has the official seal provided
     4  for in subsection (a) thereon, the recorder of deeds may
     5  disregard the existence or absence of the embossed impression.
     6     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
     7     SECTION 1.  SECTION 8 OF THE ACT OF JULY 24, 1941 (P.L.490,    <--
     8  NO.188), KNOWN AS THE UNIFORM ACKNOWLEDGMENT ACT, IS AMENDED TO
     9  READ:
    10     SECTION 8.  EXECUTION OF CERTIFICATE.--THE CERTIFICATE OF THE
    11  ACKNOWLEDGING OFFICER SHALL BE COMPLETED BY HIS SIGNATURE, HIS
    12  OFFICIAL SEAL, IF HE HAS ONE, THE TITLE OF HIS OFFICE, AND, IF
    13  HE IS A NOTARY PUBLIC, THE DATE HIS COMMISSION EXPIRES. THE
    14  EXISTENCE OR ABSENCE OF AN EMBOSSED IMPRESSION ON DOCUMENTS LEFT
    15  FOR RECORDING IN THE OFFICE OF THE RECORDER OF DEEDS MAY BE
    16  DISREGARDED BY THE RECORDER.
    17     SECTION 2.  THIS ACT SHALL TAKE EFFECT IN 60 DAYS.
