AN ACT 1 Amending the act of December 10, 1974 (P.L.852, No.287), 2 entitled "An act to protect the public health and safety by 3 preventing excavation or demolition work from damaging 4 underground lines used in providing electricity, 5 communication, gas, oil delivery, oil product delivery, 6 sewage, water or other service; imposing duties upon the 7 providers of such service, recorders of deeds, and persons 8 and other entities preparing drawings or performing 9 excavation or demolition work; and prescribing penalties," 10 providing for the use of certain maps. 11 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 12 hereby enacts as follows: 13 Section 1. The act of December 10, 1974 (P.L.852, No.287), 14 referred to as the Underground Utility Line Protection Law, is 15 amended by adding a section to read: 16 Section 2.1. (a) The notice required in section 2 shall be 17 provided by the user by utilizing the U.S. Geological Survey 18 Standard Quandrangle Maps, 7.5 Minute Series, of the 19 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania contained in the U.S. Geologic 20 Survey Pennsylvania Index to Topographic and Other Map Coverage 21 publication 40076-C8-MI-99X or its replacement.
1 (b) The one-call system shall develop grid location overlays 2 which can be applied to the quadrangles, which will further 3 reduce the quadrangle to grids of not more than one square inch 4 or more than 2000 square yards. 5 (c) The user shall, utilizing the quandrangle map and grid 6 locator overlay, make the notification required by section 2 by 7 referencing the appropriate grid or grids of the appropriate 8 quandrangle or quandrangles as indicated on the standard maps 9 described in subsection (a). 10 Section 2.
