A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring the week of October 7 through 13, 1990, as "Social 2 Studies Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Chapter 5 of the State Board of Education 4 regulations indicates that a quality education shall help every 5 student learn the history of the United States, understand its 6 systems of government and economics, and acquire the values and 7 attitudes necessary for responsible citizenship; and 8 WHEREAS, Social studies curriculum includes such broad topics 9 as anthropology, economics, geography, history, political 10 science, psychology, sociology, American culture, world cultures 11 and history and government of the United States and 12 Pennsylvania; and 13 WHEREAS, A comprehensive study of the social sciences will 14 enable students to develop a broad understanding and 15 appreciation of human nature and the institutions which serve as 16 the foundations for governing men and women of different 17 nations; therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 2 importance of social studies in the curriculum of all students 3 in this Commonwealth; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare and 5 commemorate the week of October 7 through 13, 1990, as "Social 6 Studies Week" in Pennsylvania.
