           LANGTRY, MARSICO, GIGLIOTTI, MELIO, BILLOW, NOYE, SERAFINI,

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, MARCH 19, 1990

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating October 13, 1990, as "Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy
     2     Syndrome Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome, known as
     4  RSDS, is a disabling disease that causes symptoms such as loss
     5  of mobility of the limbs, softness of the bones, stiffness in
     6  the joints, vasospasms and muscle spasms; and
     7     WHEREAS, RSDS affects individuals of both sexes and all ages;
     8  and
     9     WHEREAS, Individuals afflicted with RSDS suffer excruciating
    10  pain without relief; and
    11     WHEREAS, Research into the causes and effects of RSDS has
    12  only recently begun; and
    13     WHEREAS, Medical researchers face a difficult challenge in
    14  attempting to identify the origin of RSDS; and
    15     WHEREAS, Education of the victims of RSDS and the public
    16  about the disease is difficult because of the limited amount of

     1  knowledge about the disease and the lack of consensus in the
     2  medical profession regarding the proper interpretation of the
     3  knowledge; and
     4     WHEREAS, The RSDS Association was incorporated on May 18,
     5  1984, to support research of the disease and to aid families of
     6  persons suffering from the disease; and
     7     WHEREAS, A day should be designated to recognize the victims
     8  of RSDS and to increase the awareness and concern of the people
     9  of the United States regarding the research into the causes,
    10  cures, prevention and clinical treatment of the devastating
    11  disease; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
    13  13, 1990, as "Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Awareness
    14  Day" in Pennsylvania.
