A RESOLUTION 1 Calling for the development of air transportation within this 2 Commonwealth. 3 WHEREAS, The number of passengers boarding United States 4 airplanes has doubled since 1977 and is expected to rise an 5 additional 67% in the next 11 years; and 6 WHEREAS, No major new airport has been built in the United 7 States since 1974; and 8 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives considers an efficient 9 air transportation system to be essential to the vigor of our 10 national economy and the quality of our citizens' lives; and 11 WHEREAS, Development of the air transportation system has 12 failed to keep pace with soaring public demand for air travel; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, The lagging development has prevented the air 15 transportation system from operating with the efficiency desired
1 and required by business and pleasure travelers; therefore be it 2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives enthusiastically 3 support the efforts of the Partnership for Improved Air Travel 4 to help build a national commitment for a program to 5 significantly increase the capacity of the air transportation 6 system; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives applaud the 8 Partnership's efforts to add people and equipment to today's 9 aviation system, to modernize the airspace control system, to 10 create a national airport plan for development of airports and 11 runways when and where needed, to reorganize the Federal 12 Aviation Administration, and to establish a long-range planning 13 process to avoid a future capacity crisis; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the 15 Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation to support Federal 16 Government initiatives that will help achieve these very 17 critical goals. 18 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 19 the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each 20 member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
