                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of February 1, 1966 (1965 P.L.1656, No.581),
     2     entitled "An act concerning boroughs, and revising, amending
     3     and consolidating the law relating to boroughs," authorizing
     4     taxation for retention and service award programs for
     5     volunteer firefighters and for training firefighters for
     6     hazardous waste management.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1302 of the act of February 1, 1966 (1965
    10  P.L.1656, No.581), known as The Borough Code, amended December
    11  2, 1976 (P.L.1236, No.274), is amended by adding clauses to
    12  read:
    13     Section 1302.  Tax Levy.--The council of the borough shall
    14  have power, by ordinance, to levy and collect annually, a tax,
    15  not exceeding thirty mills for general borough purposes, unless
    16  the council by majority action shall, upon due cause shown by
    17  resolution, petition the court of common pleas, in which case
    18  the court may order a rate of not more than five mills

     1  additional to be levied and in addition thereto any of the
     2  following taxes:
     3     * * *
     4     (10)  For retention and service award programs for volunteer
     5  firefighters, not to exceed one mill.
     6     (11)  For the purpose of training firefighters for hazardous
     7  waste management, not to exceed one mill.
     8     * * *
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
