HOUSE BILL

        AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE ON LOCAL GOVERNMENT, HOUSE OF
           REPRESENTATIVES, AS AMENDED, MARCH 27, 1990

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of November 1, 1971 (P.L.495, No.113),
     2     entitled, as amended, "An act providing for the compensation
     3     of county officers in counties of the second through eighth
     4     classes, for compensation of district attorneys in cities and
     5     counties of the first class, for the disposition of fees, for
     6     filing of bonds in certain cases and for duties of certain
     7     officers," further providing for salary determinations. THE    <--
     8     SALARY OF THE CORONER.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1.  Section 10.1(e) of the act of November 1, 1971
    12  (P.L.495, No.113), entitled, as amended, "An act providing for
    13  the compensation of county officers in counties of the second
    14  through eighth classes, for compensation of district attorneys
    15  in cities and counties of the first class, for the disposition
    16  of fees, for filing of bonds in certain cases and for duties of
    17  certain officers," reenacted and amended October 7, 1976
    18  (P.L.1101, No.223) and amended December 18, 1984 (P.L.1067,
    19  No.82 NO.212), is amended to read:                                <--
    20     Section 10.1.  * * *

     1     (e)  Any salary increase shall be on a percentage basis and
     2  applied equally to all county officials except that the county
     3  commissioners [may] shall, WHEN SALARIES ARE NEXT INCREASED,      <--
     4  provide a greater percentage salary increase to the [lowest paid  <--
     5  county official, other than the jury commissioners or county
     6  auditor, until] CORONER, SO THAT his salary is equal to the       <--
     7  other county officials except the jury commissioners, county
     8  auditors, district attorneys and county commissioners.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall be applicable to each such officer  <--
    10  CORONER when permitted by the Constitution of Pennsylvania.       <--
    11     Section 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.
