        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION, MAY 22, 1989

                                     AN ACT

     1  Making an appropriation to the Department of Education for the
     2     purpose of establishing a pilot program to hire tutors.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  The sum of $100,000, or as much thereof as may be
     6  necessary, is hereby appropriated to the Department of Education
     7  for the purpose of establishing a pilot program to hire tutors
     8  to instruct students outside of regular school hours. Three
     9  school districts (one in the eastern part of this Commonwealth,
    10  one in the central part of this Commonwealth and one in the
    11  western part of this Commonwealth) shall be selected to
    12  participate in the program. A school district may employ members
    13  of its teaching staff as tutors or may employ private tutors.
    14     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
