                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for restraint systems in the rear
     3     seats of motor vehicles.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 4537.  Rear seat restraint system.
     9     Beginning with the model year 1991, all new passenger cars
    10  sold in this Commonwealth on or after January 1, 1991, shall be
    11  equipped with a rear-seat safety seat belt system which provides
    12  upper torso restraint and is either a Type 2 or Type 2(a) safety
    13  belt system as specified in 49 CFR 571.209 (relating to Standard
    14  No. 209; seat belt assemblies).
    15     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
