A RESOLUTION 1 Requesting the Governor to proclaim the week of April 10 through 2 17, 1988, as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the 3 Holocaust." 4 WHEREAS, Six million Jews and millions of other people were
1 murdered in concentration camps as part of a program of 2 extermination carried out by the Nazi party during World War II; 3 and 4 WHEREAS, The atrocities committed against these men, women 5 and children will live on in our memory as the depth of man's 6 inhumanity to man; and 7 WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should always 8 remember these atrocities so that such horrors will never be 9 repeated and should continually rededicate themselves to the 10 principle of equal justice for all people; and 11 WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should recognize 12 that tyranny creates the political atmosphere in which bigotry 13 flourishes, and should be vigilant to detect, and ready to 14 resist, the tyrannical exercise of power; and 15 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is dedicated in deed, in thought 16 and in prayer to eliminating hatred and malice among all people; 17 therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives request the 19 Governor to proclaim the week of April 10 through 17, 1988, as 20 the "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust" and 21 further request the Governor to issue a proclamation calling 22 upon the people of this Commonwealth to observe this week with 23 appropriate ceremonies and activities.
