HOUSE RESOLUTION

        INTRODUCED BY DOMBROWSKI, BOWSER, MERRY, CAPPABIANCA, BOYES,
           BLACK, JADLOWIEC, FARGO, ROBBINS, TIGUE, BELARDI AND FEE,
           FEBRUARY 2, 1988

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, FEBRUARY 3, 1988

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the House Military and Veteran's Affairs Committee to
     2     conduct an investigation regarding the existence of vacant
     3     domiciliary beds at the Veterans' Homes across this
     4     Commonwealth.

     5     WHEREAS, There is currently a vacancy rate averaging 25% in
     6  domiciliary beds at the Veterans' Homes across this
     7  Commonwealth; and
     8     WHEREAS, There is an increased need for intermediate and
     9  skilled care beds, and there are individuals on waiting lists
    10  who need to be placed in these Veteran's Homes; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the House
    12  Military and Veterans Affairs Committee to investigate Veterans'
    13  Homes across this Commonwealth to ascertain:
    14         (1)  why there are domiciliary beds remaining vacant at
    15     locations where there are individuals on the waiting list for
    16     intermediate and skilled care beds;
    17         (2)  the feasibility of converting some of the vacant
    18     domiciliary beds to intermediate and skilled care beds,


     1     therefore concentrating available beds in the area where the
     2     need is greatest; and
     3         (3)  what can be done to have the vacant beds better
     4     utilized.
     5  and be it further
     6     RESOLVED, That the committee shall make its report to the
     7  House of Representatives as soon as possible.
