A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a multi- 2 cultural, multi-lingual jurisdiction. 3 WHEREAS, In 1681 William Penn established his colony of 4 Pennsylvania as a refuge and haven for all ethnic groups of all 5 religious persuasions; and 6 WHEREAS, Penn's religiously and ethnically tolerant colony 7 stood in bright contrast to other colonies that restricted the 8 freedoms of their citizens; and 9 WHEREAS, The history of Pennsylvania has been beneficially 10 and inextricably interlaced with that of its large and growing 11 multi-cultural population whose multi-linguistic heritage since 12 its first days has never hurt us but has instead given us access 13 to the rich and varied cultures of the world; and 14 WHEREAS, Our Commonwealth's tradition of a multi-cultural 15 society is mirrored in our multi-ethnic nation; and 16 WHEREAS, The real common bond of all Americans is our shared
1 belief and commitment to democracy, freedom and equality of 2 opportunity; and 3 WHEREAS, In this year in which we commemorate the 200th 4 anniversary of our great nation's Constitution, it is especially 5 fitting that we affirm and cherish our history of being a multi- 6 cultural, multi-lingual society; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That The House of Representatives hereby designates 8 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a multi-cultural, multi- 9 lingual jurisdiction and declares that the respect for all 10 languages and cultures is integral to its continued prosperity.
