A RESOLUTION
1 Directing the Education Committee to investigate racial
2 segregation and unlawful discrimination within the State
3 System of Higher Education and State-related universities.
4 WHEREAS, It appears that within the State System of Higher
5 Education and State-related universities there exists racial
6 segregation and unlawful discrimination; and
7 WHEREAS, Such segregation and discrimination would violate
8 Federal and State civil rights and equal opportunity laws;
9 therefore be it
10 RESOLVED, That the Education committee investigate the State
11 System of Higher Education and State-related universities to
12 determine the existence and extent of any unlawful racial
13 segregation or discrimination; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That the committee may hold hearings, take
15 testimony and make its investigations at such places as it deems
16 necessary in this Commonwealth. Each member of the committee
17 shall have power to administer oaths and affirmations to
18 witnesses appearing before the committee; and be it further
1 RESOLVED, That within 30 calendar days after the committee
2 has made its report or the mandate of the committee has expired,
3 the chairman of the committee shall cause a record of all
4 expenses incurred by the committee, or the members thereof,
5 which are payable at Commonwealth expense, to be filed with the
6 Chief Clerk; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That the committee make a report of its findings
8 and recommendations to the House of Representatives as soon as
9 possible.
