                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the United Way in this year of its centennial, 1987.

     2     WHEREAS, Since our earliest times, we have joined together to
     3  help each other and to strengthen our communities; and
     4     WHEREAS, Through the years, helpful and innovative
     5  individuals have established a network of voluntary groups to
     6  give help where help is needed; and
     7     WHEREAS, The United Way has exemplified this spirit of
     8  voluntarism since its first fundraising campaign in Denver,
     9  Colorado, in 1887; and
    10     WHEREAS, Today, 92 local United Ways across our Commonwealth
    11  raise funds for the many voluntary organizations that aid
    12  thousands of people; and


     1     WHEREAS, This organization allows all types of volunteers to
     2  address the needs and problems of our communities; and
     3     WHEREAS, It is most appropriate that we as Pennsylvanians
     4  recognize the indispensable services this group has performed
     5  over the past 100 years; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     7  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania join with all the citizens of our
     8  Commonwealth in thanking the United Way and its numerous
     9  volunteers for its many efforts over the years; and be it
    10  further
    11     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    12  the United Way of Pennsylvania.
