                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the Executive Board of the United Auto Workers
     2     International to make every reasonable effort to negotiate a
     3     mutually satisfactory contract agreement between U.A.W. Local
     4     677 and Mack Trucks, Inc.

     5     WHEREAS, The United Auto Workers International Union is
     6  currently negotiating a mutually satisfactory collective
     7  bargaining agreement between U.A.W. Local 677 and Mack Trucks,
     8  Inc.; and
     9     WHEREAS, Such an agreement will ensure the continued presence
    10  of Mack Trucks as an industrial leader in the Lehigh Valley and
    11  in Pennsylvania; and
    12     WHEREAS, Mack Trucks, with 4,700 employees in Allentown and
    13  Macungie, Lehigh County, production facilities as well as its
    14  Allentown World Headquarters, is a cornerstone of the economic
    15  foundation of the Lehigh Valley. Families depend on Mack,
    16  businesses depend on Mack and the entire community depends on
    17  Mack; and
    18     WHEREAS, Such an agreement will encourage plant renovation


     1  and future economic development by Mack in the Lehigh Valley;
     2  and
     3     WHEREAS, The members of Local 677, who have dedicated their
     4  lives to their company and their union, have approved a
     5  tentative contract by an overwhelming margin; and
     6     WHEREAS, The U.A.W. Executive board, meeting February 24,
     7  1987, in St. Louis, can secure the future of Mack Trucks in
     8  Pennsylvania with its approval of a carefully considered and
     9  balanced agreement; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    11  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the Executive Board of the
    12  U.A.W. International to make every reasonable effort to
    13  negotiate a mutually satisfactory contract between Local 677 and
    14  Mack Trucks; and be it further
    15     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be sent to Owen
    16  Bieber, president of the United Auto Workers International,
    17  Detroit, Michigan.
