                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of February 8 through 14, 1987, as "Scout
     2     Anniversary Week."

     3     WHEREAS, The concept of scouting was created by Lord Baden-
     4  Powell over 77 years ago; and
     5     WHEREAS, The world scouting movement has made significant
     6  contributions to the world, the Nation and this Commonwealth;
     7  and
     8     WHEREAS, There are over 200,000 young men and 60,000 adults
     9  involved with Boy Scouting in this Commonwealth; and
    10     WHEREAS, The first man to walk on the moon, astronaut Neil
    11  Armstrong, was an Eagle Scout; and
    12     WHEREAS, Many of our past leaders, including presidents,
    13  congressmen, judges and clergy were members of the scouting
    14  movement; and
    15     WHEREAS, Scouting has emphasized leadership in the
    16  communities, schools and families for the past 77 years; and
    17     WHEREAS, "Scout Anniversary Week" is being celebrated from


     1  February 8 through 14, 1987; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     3  week of February 8 through 14, 1987, as "Scout Anniversary Week"
     4  and urges its celebration throughout the Commonwealth.
