                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing a limited exemption from certain
     3     engineering and traffic investigation requirements.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 3363 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 3363.  Alteration of maximum limits.
     9     (a)  General rule.--The department or local authorities on
    10  highways under their respective jurisdictions, upon the basis of
    11  an engineering and traffic investigation, may determine that the
    12  maximum speed permitted under this subchapter is greater or less
    13  than is reasonable and safe under the conditions found to exist
    14  upon any such highway or part thereof and establish a reasonable
    15  and safe maximum limit. The maximum speed limit may be made
    16  effective at all times or at times indicated and may vary for
    17  different weather conditions and other factors bearing on safe
    18  speeds. No maximum speed greater than 55 miles per hour shall be

     1  established under this section.
     2     (b)  Limited exemption.--The provisions of this section shall
     3  not require engineering and traffic investigation requirements
     4  for local authorities on local roads within their jurisdiction
     5  where the width of the paved portion of the road is 18 feet or
     6  less.
     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
