AN ACT 1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 2 Statutes, further providing for general requirements for 3 school buses and for width of vehicles. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Section 4552(b) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania 7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read: 8 § 4552. General requirements for school buses. 9 * * * 10 (b) Visual signals.--In addition to the applicable lighting 11 requirements of Chapter 43 (relating to lighting equipment) 12 every school bus shall be equipped with a uniform front and rear 13 system of red and amber visual signals for the warning and 14 control of traffic during route operations as provided in 15 section 3345 (relating to meeting or overtaking school bus) and 16 in regulations of the department. All school buses purchased 17 after January JULY 1, 1988, which were manufactured after that <--
1 date, shall also be equipped with a side stop signal arm on the 2 left side of the vehicle. The side stop signal arm shall be 3 automatically activated when the bus stops and shall contain a 4 flashing red light connected to the same circuits as the red and 5 amber visual signals. The department shall adopt regulations 6 implementing this subsection. 7 * * * 8 Section 2. Section 4921 of Title 75 is amended by adding a 9 subsection to read: 10 § 4921. Width of vehicles. 11 * * * 12 (f.1) School buses.--School bus side stop signal arms, as 13 provided for in section 4552, may, when in an extended position 14 displaying red visual signals while the vehicle is stopped and 15 loading or discharging students, extend beyond the width 16 limitation otherwise provided in this section. 17 Section 3.
