AN ACT
1 Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, further defining "firearm."
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Section 6102 of Title 18 of the Pennsylvania
6 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
7 § 6102. Definitions.
8 Subject to additional definitions contained in subsequent
9 provisions of this subchapter which are applicable to specific
10 provisions of this subchapter, the following words and phrases,
11 when used in this subchapter shall have, unless the context
12 clearly indicates otherwise, the meanings given to them in this
13 section:
14 "Firearm." Any pistol or revolver with a barrel less than 12
15 inches, any shotgun with a barrel less than [24] 18 inches, [or]
16 any rifle with a barrel less than [15] 16 inches or any rifle or
17 shotgun with an overall length of less than 26 inches. The
1 barrel length of a firearm shall be determined by measuring from
2 the muzzle of the barrel to the face of the closed action, bolt
3 or cylinder, as the case may be.
4 "Crime of violence." Any of the following crimes, or an
5 attempt to commit any of the same, namely: murder, rape,
6 aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, entering a building with
7 intent to commit a crime therein, and kidnapping.
8 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
