     1                                (1)
     2               "You've Got a Friend in Pennsylvania"
     3                                                 Collett Silvestri
     4  Verse 1
     5         You've got a friend in Pennsylvania,
     6 It's one of those states you can call your own.
     7 No matter how far that you choose to travel,
     8 You'll find your way back to the old Keystone.
     9 We were here at the start and most likely the finish,
    10 We're here for the whole wide world to see.
    11 From the way back woods to the rising cities,
    12 Right into the pages of history!
    13  Chorus
    14         You've got a friend in Pennsylvania,
    15 You can depend, we're one you can depend.
    16 Not far away in Pennsylvania,
    17             You're never alone cause you've got a friend.
    18  Verse 2
    19 It was from our hills that was born a country,
    20 And to this land we gave our best.
    21 For it was here that they wrote the Constitution,
    22 It was here that they found the gate to the West.
    23 The times may change, but not our spirit,
    24 To forge ahead is still our way.
    25 For the faith that we have is not just history,
    26 It's the American dream that lives today!
    27  Chorus

    15  Verse 2

    17         To be your loyal descendants;

     3                                                   Cyra G. Renwick
     4  Verse 1
     5 It's the land of Pennsylvania
     6 Where the mist of early morn
     7         Touches hills beyond the hills;
     8 It's the land where I was born!
     9  Verse 2
    10         In September, in September
    11         There's a glory on the field;
    12         Gold and purple 'gainst the green;
    13 In the groves soft concealed,
    14 Stand old land-marks of the past:
    15         Churches, taverns, fences, walls,
    16         And I wonder as I walk,
    17 At the cliffs and water falls.
    18  Verse 3
    19 It's the State of Pennsylvania
    20 Where the Capitol did lay
    21         In historic Philadelphia
    22         By the Delaware Bay!
    23 It's the State of Independence
    24 Where the great ideals of Penn
    25 Made it possible to have
    26 A new land of free men.
    27  Verse 4
    28 In the Tower of London held
    29 For high treason to the Crown,
    30 Cleared of guilt, he did return

     1 To his dear, old Quaker Town.
     2  Chorus
     3         O, it's great, great, great, it's Pennsylvania!
     4 It's the Keystone of our dreams---
     5         Where our children play
     6 In the same, old way,
     7 In their games of make believe!
     8         It's beautiful!  It's Pennsylvania!
     9         Where Penn granted liberty---
    10         To build a-right, with free-dom's might,
    11 That the world we our gifts might give!
    12         Our gifts might give!

     5         My Pennsylvania,
     6             Your grandfathers tamed you,
     7         Your country proclaims you
     8             Its Keystone, its pride.
     9  Verse 2
    10 Oh! the miners that tore you,
    11 The tribes that swept o'er you,

    13             The world to defy!
    14  Verse 3
    15 Oh! how tall are your mountains!
    16 How green are your meadows!

    18 That carry me home to --
    19  Chorus
    20         My Pennsylvania,
    21 How loudly I praise you!
    22         How proudly embrace you!
    23 My home and my pride!

    23  Verse 3
    24         Gee! It's great
    25 Being from the State of Pennsylvania!
    26 The U.S.A. was born right here in Pennsylvania,

    15         Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania,
    16         Histories pages often tell:
    17 How our boys on battle fields
    18 For the cause of freedom fought and fell.
    19         Gettysburg decided

    21         Terminating in our land,
    22         The curse of slavery.

    28 You will always be Home Sweet Home to me,
    29         Pennsylvania! my home.

     7  Verse 4
     8 Thou who rulest the nations,
     9             Author of liberty;
    10 Keep up in sacred nearness,
    11             Honor and unity;

     5         From the Allegheny Mountains
     6         Down to Philadelphy,
     7         There's a glory and a beauty
     8 In Pennsylvania you can see.
     9 In the forests and the pastures
    10 And the rivers rushing by,
    11 The greenness of the mountains,

    13  Chorus
    14 From the strength of her steel mills
    15 To her gentle growing corn,
    16 A man can be proud
    17         Who is Pennsylvania born.
    18  Verse 2
    19 Men have hunted in her forests,

    21 Men have lived their lives in fullness,
    22         Fulfilling all their dreams.
    23 Brave battles fought at Valley Forge

    11 We walked on Philadelphia's streets,

    13 We stood where liberty was born,
    14         And democratic law devised.

    19         Plus wisdom and good sense, my friend;
    20 Yes, wisdom and good sense!
    21  Verse 2
    22 We hiked on Allegheny Trails,
    23 And poled a raft through Pine Creek Gorge.
    24 We saw where suffering heroes camped,
    25 Within a valley, near the forge.
    26         We stood where several forts once stood;
    27 The place Ohio starts to flow.
    28 We swam where Perry launched his fleet,
    29 To overcome an early foe!

     4 And saw the field where Lincoln spoke,
     5 To help restore one land again!
     6 The State's great hub of Harrisburg,
     7         Can claim that its among the best;
     8 Just as the Poconos can boast,
     9 Twin cities to the south and west.
    10  Verse 4
    11         You'd love the State's variety,
    12 With fact'ries, farms and wooded hills.
    13         God's handiwork is everywhere;
    14 A special reverence it instills.
    15 Someday we'll meet in that fair State,

    13  Verse 2
    14 With its hemlocked hills, that beautify the land,
    15 You'll find mountain laurel lending beauty to your soul.
    16 While the ruffed grouse wanders idly in the grass,
    17 White tail deer are foraging for food to thrive
    18 Within our forest glen it will survive.
    19  Chorus
    20 Keystone State, the home of our Country's flag
    21 That stands for brotherhood and liberty.

     4  Verse 1
     5 I've grown fond of these hot summer days,
     6 Trying to find the cool, cool shade and now
     7 I'm thinking that they might go away.
     8 What would we have, just the rain?
     9  Chorus
    10         Love you, Pennsylvania,
    11 Your summer days and nights are long,
    12         Love you, Pennsylvania,
    13 Your mountains and corn fields are home.
    14  Verse 2
    15 Curves and winding roads, they never seem to end,
    16 Every time I look at you, I find a brand new friend.
    17 You know I might travel far, but I won't come to an end,
    18 Your country voice it keeps on calling to the wind.
    19  Verse 3
    20 I might sit back and just look at you awhile,
    21 Still keeping up with all the latest going by.
    22 Some may have loved you but the feeling's not the same,
    23 What would you be without your sunshine and your rain?

     4  Verse 1
     5 There's a rising sun perched across the hills,
     6 Sitting here behind the wheel,
     7 Eastbound on my way back home again.
     8         Traveling the last leg,
     9 This time I'm home to stay
    10 Where I can kick back and relax with some old friends.
    11 It's been quite awhile since
    12 I've seen the home folks smile,

    17  Chorus

    19 The only place I've ever called my home,
    20 Back to those green flowing hills,
    21 The mountains and the mills,
    22 She'll be a part of me as far as I go.

    24 The things that truly last
    25 When men and times have passed,
    26 They are all in Pennsylvania this morning.
