        INTRODUCED BY LINTON, BORTNER, BATTISTO, COWELL, DONATUCCI,
           FREEMAN, McHALE, WAMBACH, WOZNIAK AND FATTAH, MAY 1, 1985

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, MAY 1, 1985

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to
     2     undertake a study of the financial needs of mass transit
     3     systems throughout this Commonwealth.

     4     WHEREAS, Federal budgetary assistance to mass transit systems
     5  throughout this Commonwealth has been reduced, thereby
     6  compounding financial difficulties within these systems; and
     7     WHEREAS, Mass transit systems provide necessary
     8  transportation for thousands of commuters, senior citizens,
     9  students and other citizens of this Commonwealth and alleviate
    10  exhaust pollution and congestion in communities which would be
    11  otherwise created by individual passenger cars; and
    12     WHEREAS, This House of Representatives believes that the
    13  services provided by mass transit systems should be encouraged;
    14  therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the
    16  Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to undertake a study of
    17  the present and potential financial needs of mass transit
    18  systems throughout this Commonwealth and report its evaluation

     1  before the end of the 1985-1986 session.
