AN ACT
1 Requiring motor vehicle insurance rate reductions for certain
2 senior citizens; and providing for accident prevention
3 courses.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Rate reduction for certain senior citizens.
7 (a) Motor vehicle accident prevention course.--Any schedule
8 of rates or rating plan for automobile liability and physical
9 damage insurance submitted to or filed with the Insurance
10 Commissioner shall provide for an appropriate reduction in
11 premium charges for those insureds 55 years of age and older for
12 a three-year period after they successfully complete a motor
13 vehicle accident prevention course meeting the standards of the
14 Department of Transportation.
15 (b) Allowance of premium reduction.--All insurers shall
16 allow an appropriate reduction of no less than 10% in premium
17 charges to all eligible persons subject to this act.
1 (c) Completion of course.--Upon successfully completing the
2 approved course, each participant shall be issued, by the
3 course's sponsoring agency, a certificate which shall be the
4 basis of qualification for the discount on insurance.
5 (d) Continuing eligibility.--Each participant shall take an
6 approved course every three years to continue to be eligible for
7 the discount on insurance.
8 Section 2. Applicability.
9 This act applies to automobile insurance policies issued or
10 renewed on and after January 1, 1987.
11 Section 3. Effective date.
12 This act shall take effect immediately.
