AN ACT
1 Amending the act of July 9, 1985 (P.L.184, No.46), entitled "An
2 act authorizing a one-time program for the Department of
3 Education to make institutional equipment grants on behalf of
4 full-time equivalent undergraduate students attending
5 institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth,"
6 further defining "eligible institution"; and making an
7 appropriation.
8 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
9 hereby enacts as follows:
10 Section 1. The definition of "eligible institution" in
11 section 3 of the act of July 9, 1985 (P.L.184, No.46), known as
12 the Institutional Equipment Grants Act, is amended to read:
13 Section 3. Definitions.
14 The following words and phrases when used in this act shall
15 have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
16 context clearly indicates otherwise:

18 "Eligible institution." An independent institution of higher
19 education, a State-owned institution or a State-related
20 institution, any of which is approved by the department for
1 equipment grants pursuant to the provisions of this act. It
2 shall not mean an institution which is determined by the
3 department to be a community college, [a medical school, a
4 junior college,] a theological seminary or school of theology or
5 a sectarian and denominational institution.

7 Section 2. The act is amended by adding a section to read:
8 Section 7.1. Appropriation.
9 The sum of $373,000, or as much thereof as may be necessary,
10 is hereby appropriated to the Department of Education for fiscal
11 year July 1, 1985, to June 30, 1986, for allocation to medical
12 schools and to junior colleges for the purposes of this act.
13 Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
