                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing correction by telescopic lenses for
     3     visual acuity license requirements.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1519(a) of the Title 75 of the
     7  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 1519.  Determination of incompetency.
     9     (a)  General rule.--The department, having cause to believe
    10  that a licensed driver or applicant may not be physically or
    11  mentally qualified to be licensed, may obtain the advice of a
    12  physician who shall cause an examination to be made or who shall
    13  designate any other qualified physician. The licensed driver or
    14  applicant may cause a written report to be forwarded to the
    15  department by a physician of the driver's or applicant's choice.
    16  Vision qualifications shall be determined by an optometrist or
    17  ophthalmologist. Correction through the use of telescopic lenses
    18  shall be acceptable for the purposes of meeting visual acuity

     1  requirements. The department shall appoint one or more qualified
     2  persons who shall consider all medical reports and testimony and
     3  determine the competency of the driver or the applicant to
     4  drive.
