AN ACT
1 Amending Title 66 (Public Utilities) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, further providing for the regulation
3 of taxicab service.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Title 66 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
7 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
8 § 1102.1. When certificate is not required.
9 No certificate of public convenience shall be required by any
10 public utility for the furnishing of taxicab service within this
11 Commonwealth.
12 Section 2. Section 1103(c) of Title 66 is repealed.
13 Section 3. Title 66 is amended by adding a section to read:
14 § 2510. Municipal regulation of taxicab service.
15 Municipalities shall have the power and it shall be their
16 duty to regulate all public utilities furnishing taxicab service
17 within their boundaries to provide for the health, safety and
1 welfare of their residents.
2 Section 4. Sections 2 and 3 of the act of June 19, 1980
3 (P.L.244, No.69), entitled "An act amending Title 66 (Public
4 Utilities) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further
5 providing for certificates of public convenience relating to
6 taxicabs to provide for temporary authority for common carriers
7 and changing certain certificates of public convenience," are
8 repealed.
9 Section 5. This act shall take effect in 180 days.
