AN ACT
1 Amending the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), entitled,
2 as amended, "An act relating to counties of the second class
3 and second class A; amending, revising, consolidating and
4 changing the laws relating thereto," providing an additional
5 ground for the reduction, suspension or discharge of a police
6 officer, fireman or fire inspector.
7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8 hereby enacts as follows:
9 Section 1. Section 1518(a) of the act of July 28, 1953
10 (P.L.723, No.230), known as the Second Class County Code,
11 amended August 13, 1963 (P.L.662, No.347), is amended to read:
12 Section 1518. Reducing in Rank; Suspension; Furloughing;
13 Discharging.--(a) No person employed in a county police force
14 shall be reduced in rank (except superintendent of police),
15 suspended, furloughed or discharged, and no fireman or fire
16 inspector (except fire chief or chief fire inspector) shall be
17 suspended, furloughed or discharged, except for the following
18 reasons: (1) neglect or violation of any official duty; (2)
19 violation of any law of this Commonwealth which provides that
1 such violation constitutes a misdemeanor or a felony; (3)
2 inefficiency, except as hereinafter provided, wilful
3 disobedience of orders, or conduct unbecoming a police officer;
4 (4) drinking of intoxicating liquor while on duty or the use of
5 which renders him unfit for duty when called upon; (5)
6 nonservice-connected mental or physical disability.
