                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of December 17, 1981 (P.L.435, No.135),
     2     entitled "An act providing for the regulation of pari-mutuel
     3     thoroughbred horse racing and harness horse racing
     4     activities; imposing certain taxes and providing for the
     5     disposition of funds from pari-mutuel tickets," further
     6     providing for experimental simulcasting.                       <--

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 234 of the act of December 17, 1981
    10  (P.L.435, No.135), known as the Race Horse Industry Reform Act,
    11  added May 31, 1984 (P.L.376, No.76), is amended to read:
    12  Section 234.  [Experimental simulcasting] SIMULCASTING.           <--
    13     The State Harness Racing Commission may, upon request from a
    14  licensed corporation, grant permission to [one] ANY               <--
    15  corporation[, on an experimental basis,] to simulcast intrastate  <--
    16  harness racing at a facility at which less than 80 days of
    17  racing was conducted in the PREVIOUS calendar year [1983] 1984.   <--
    18  The period of experimental simulcasting shall be through


     1  November [1984] 1985. Neither the racing facility or licensed     <--
     2  corporation at such facility shall transmit any simulcast signal
     3  to any other racing facility. Simulcasts are to be operated by
     4  the licensed corporation at the racetrack enclosure where a
     5  harness race meeting is being conducted [during, between, before  <--
     6  or after posted races for that racing day]. No more than 50% of   <--
     7  the races conducted each week (Monday through Sunday) shall be
     8  simulcast. All forms of [pari-mutual] pari-mutuel wagering
     9  described in section 221 shall be allowed on races to be
    10  televised by simulcasting under this section. The State Harness
    11  Racing Commission may promulgate regulations on wagering and the
    12  operation of these races. All money wagered by patrons on these
    13  races shall be computed in the amount of money wagered each
    14  racing day for purposes of taxation under section 222.
    15     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
