        ADOPTED, JUNE 28, 1984

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the Governor to set aside by Proclamation September 8,
     2     1984, as Emergency Volunteer Recognition Day.

     3     WHEREAS, Thousands of Pennsylvanians currently serve the
     4  citizenry of this Commonwealth and its visitors by providing
     5  emergency volunteer rescue, medical, firefighting,
     6  communications and auxiliary services; and
     7     WHEREAS, In addition to the appreciable commitment and
     8  devotion to service which these individuals demonstrate,
     9  millions of tax dollars are saved by the Commonwealth because of
    10  the voluntary nature of the services provided and, further, fire
    11  insurance rates for community businesses and homes are
    12  substantially lower because of the services provided; and
    13     WHEREAS, The time which is expended, the skills which are
    14  contributed and the commitment to serve which is demonstrated by


     1  these emergency volunteers is greatly appreciated by the House
     2  of Representatives at all times and particularly now, at a time
     3  when we anticipate the celebration of Labor Day in recognition
     4  of those who labor for pay; therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the Governor set aside by proclamation,
     6  September 8, 1984, as the day on which the Commonwealth honors
     7  its emergency volunteers, calling this day Emergency Volunteer
     8  Recognition Day.
