A RESOLUTION 1 Requesting that the Consumer Affairs Committee of the House of 2 Representatives study and investigate the possibility of 3 requiring smoke detectors in all public buildings, 4 particularly dormitories having sleeping areas. 5 WHEREAS, Over the last 20 years, the Commonwealth has had an 6 average of 300 fire deaths per year; and 7 WHEREAS, Fires represent a significant threat to public 8 property and revenues; and 9 WHEREAS, Studies indicate that approximately 50% of 10 individual homeowners have seen the value of including smoke 11 detectors in their homes; and 12 WHEREAS, In 1982 there was a 25% decrease in fire-related 13 deaths in Pennsylvania; and 14 WHEREAS, The Commonwealth's State educational system 15 represents one of Pennsylvania's most valuable asset; therefore 16 be it 17 RESOLVED, That the Consumer Affairs Committee of the House of 18 Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania initiate an
1 investigation into the possibility of requiring smoke detectors 2 in all public buildings, particularly dormitories having 3 sleeping areas; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That the committee report its findings and 5 recommendations to the House of Representatives upon the 6 completion of its study.
