                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 23, 1931 (P.L.932, No.317), entitled
     2     "An act relating to cities of the third class; and amending,
     3     revising, and consolidating the law relating thereto,"
     4     further providing for the appointment of a city solicitor.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 1601 of the act of June 23, 1931
     8  (P.L.932, No.317), known as The Third Class City Code, reenacted
     9  and amended June 28, 1951 (P.L.662, No.164), is amended to read:
    10     Section 1601.  Appointment of City Solicitor; Term;
    11  Compensation; Bond; Filling of Vacancies.--The council of each
    12  city shall[, on the first Monday of May, one thousand nine
    13  hundred and fifty-two, and on the first Monday of May every
    14  fourth year thereafter, or as soon thereafter as practicable in
    15  each of said years,] appoint a city solicitor, who shall be
    16  learned in the law and admitted to practice in the Supreme Court
    17  of the Commonwealth, and shall maintain an office in the city.
    18  He shall serve [for a term of four years from the said first

     1  Monday of May and] until his successor is qualified. He shall
     2  receive a fixed annual salary to be provided by ordinance. He
     3  shall give lawful bond to the city, with a surety or other
     4  company authorized by law to act as surety, to be approved by
     5  council, in such sum as they shall by ordinance direct,
     6  conditioned for the faithful performance of his official duties.
     7  Vacancies in said office shall be filled by council for the
     8  unexpired term.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
