PRINTER'S NO. 3098

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PENNSYLVANIA

HOUSE BILL

No. 2238 Session of 1984

INTRODUCED BY SHOWERS (BY REQUEST), JUNE 4, 1984

REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON STATE GOVERNMENT, JUNE 4, 1984

                                     AN ACT

1 Declaring and adopting the song "Pennsylvania," by Ken Mease, as
2 the State song of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. The song "Pennsylvania," by Ken Mease, is hereby
6 adopted as the State song of Pennsylvania and shall be the
7 official song for all public purposes. The words of the song are
     8 as follows:
9 Where do green hills seem to touch the sky
10 And the mountain streams flow clear?
11 Where do fish abound and warblers sound
12 Their songs to white tail deer?
13 In the heart of me, it's part of me,
    14 Wherever I may roam:
    15 Pennsylvania!
    16 Pennsylvania, my home.
17 Where do ribbon'd city highways lead

     1 To a flow'ring country lane?
2 Where does autumn paint her flaming leaves
3 Near fields of golden grain?
4 Where did freedom's bell ring out to tell
5 The world that we are free?
     6 In Pennsylvania!
7 Pennsylvania is home to me.
8 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
