AN ACT
1 Amending the act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, No.21), entitled "An
2 act to consolidate, editorially revise, and codify the public
3 welfare laws of the Commonwealth," providing for payment of
4 the cost of burial of indigent persons in State institutions.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. The act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, No.21), known
8 as the Public Welfare Code, is amended by adding a section to
9 read:
10 Section 318. To Provide for the Timely Burial of Deceased
11 Indigent Patients of State Institutions.--When a patient dies at
12 a State institution and no relative, friend or charitable
13 organization claims the body for burial at their expense and the
14 patient's estate contains insufficient funds for burial, the
15 superintendent of the institution shall immediately provide for
16 the patient's burial. Funds of the deceased shall be released to
17 the funeral director. The institution may supplement the funds
18 of the deceased for the purposes of paying for the burial.
1 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
