                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, further providing for the maximum fine
     3     to be imposed for summary offense convictions.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1101 of Title 18 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 1101.  Fines.
     9     A person who has been convicted of an offense may be
    10  sentenced to pay a fine not exceeding:
    11         (1)  $25,000, when the conviction is of a felony of the
    12     first or second degree.
    13         (2)  $15,000, when the conviction is of a felony of the
    14     third degree.
    15         (3)  $10,000, when the conviction is of a misdemeanor of
    16     the first degree.
    17         (4)  $5,000, when the conviction is of a misdemeanor of
    18     the second degree.

     1         (5)  $2,500, when the conviction is of a misdemeanor of
     2     the third degree.
     3         (6)  [$300] $600, when the conviction is of a summary
     4     offense.
     5         (7)  Any higher amount equal to double the pecuniary gain
     6     derived from the offense by the offender.
     7         (8)  Any higher or lower amount specifically authorized
     8     by statute.
     9     Section 2.  The provisions of this amendatory act shall apply
    10  to all convictions for summary offenses which are committed on
    11  or after the effective date of this act.
    12     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
