                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," requiring high school courses
     6     relating to the cause and prevention of drug and alcohol
     7     abuse.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  Section 1605 of the act of March 10, 1949
    11  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is
    12  amended by adding a subsection to read:
    13     Section 1605.  Courses of Study.-- * * *
    14     (c)  During one or more of the last four years of any
    15  complete high school program there shall be included a course of
    16  study concerning the cause, effect, prevention and treatment of
    17  drug and alcohol abuse and the undesirability of the abuse of
    18  these substances.
    19     Section 2.  This act shall apply to the school year next
    20  commencing after the effective date of this act and to each

     1  school year thereafter.
     2     Section 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.
